Thank god that's over...

A new year is upon us, and we say goodbye to 2008 - and I say good riddance.

Worst. Year. Ever.

If I thought the events leading up to "Six Weeks of Hell" was bad, the last part of 2008 decided to kick me in the balls and make me thank it for the privilege.

So I took the blog offline for a bit so I could change a few of the settings and do a general reevaluation. I didn't change much that will be apparent to anyone, but there were a few things I had to do to increase privacy and so forth for professional reasons.

So what have I been doing in all this time? Hobbywise, not much. I took a brief foray into Blood Bowl, and did some brainstorming into how to get the Tantalum army back into line with my original intent. I've got some pretty fun ideas, but I'm taking it slow- I really want to get everything in tip-top shape, and don't want to get burned out again.

Tantalum 7

Praetoria is a heavily populated Hive World that lies in a system close to the Imperial naval base at Bakka, capitol world of Segmentum Tempestus. The overpopulated Hive-Cities of Praetoria are renowned for their squalor and degradation, and produce some of the toughest gangers on any of the hive worlds in the Imperium. This vast population work as little more than slave-labour in the huge factory complexes of Praetoria, producing the goods that have made the planet (and its rulers) one of the richest in the Imperium, with a huge fleet of merchant craft that trade all over the Segmentum and beyond.

To support the ever-increasing needs of the manufactories of Praetoria, the ruling council of the Hive-Cities regularly dispatch exploratory expeditions in search of mineral-rich planets to colonize and plunder of their natural resources.

The far-flung world of Tantalum 7 was one such colony - its vast wealth of mineral ores quickly made it one of the the major providers of raw materials feeding Praetoria's industrial machine.

It was at the onset of the 39th Millennium when the colonies of Tantalum 7 were feared lost to destruction as violent warp-storms severed it from all contact with the rest of the Imperium. Nearly a thousand years later, the warp-storms would clear and a Praetorian expeditionary force was sent to re-colonize the remains of their distant outpost.

Much to their surprise, in place of the lifeless (but resource-valuable) planet they had expected, the expeditionary fleet found that the inhabitants of Tantalum 7 had not only survived, but had thrived in its isolation from the Imperium of Man.

Sprawling Hive-Cities and vast Manufactory blocks that rivaled even the home world of Praetoria, covered the landscape. In its absence from the technological guidance and advancements of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the colony had developed its own strange machine-science whose simple but effective engineering permeated every facet of the world's industrialized culture.

An immense planetary defense force had been mustered during the past millennium, founded on the same martial values and structured discipline as that of the original Praetorian colonists - the military tradition of Tantalum 7 so ingrained in its civilization, it was nearly impossible to separate the daily life of its populace from military service. It was most likely this fact that lead the Praetorian governors to seek a partnership with the rulers of Tantalum 7.

Rather than enter into a full-blown war to reclaim a distant colony which had embraced its independence (and was now defended by a force every bit as hard as that of Praetoria itself), Praetoria and Tantalum 7 signed a Sister Pact that outlined the mutual trade of goods and materials in exchange for colonial independence and aid in reunification with the Imperium, and backing in the recognition of the founding of an acknowledged Imperial Guard force within the Departmento Munitorium.
